First Love Again

First Love Again

So get this — there are two people walking around with the exact opposite problem when it comes to their very first romance, and somehow the universe thought it would be hilarious to throw them back together. On one side, you've got Lee Ha Jin, a woman who apparently has the romantic memory of a goldfish. She's completely and utterly blanked on her first love. Whatever happened, whoever it was, her brain just hit the delete button and moved on like it was clearing browser history. Was it trauma? Was it denial? Did she just have one too many bowls of soup and forget? We don't know, but she's out here living her life blissfully unaware of the emotional ghost following her around.

Then on the flip side, there's Cha Do Yoon — a man who is absolutely, completely, and arguably unhealthily trapped inside the memories of his first love. This dude is not moving on. He's not even trying. He's got one foot stuck in the past and the other foot stuck right next to it, and he's just standing there in the middle of a memory like a tourist who refuses to leave a museum at closing time. Every little thing probably reminds him of her — a song, a smell, a certain kind of weather. He's basically carrying around a shrine in his head.

Now here's the kicker. After eight long years of doing their own thing, these two cross paths again. The one who can't remember and the one who can't forget, standing face to face in what has to be the most lopsided romantic reunion in history. She's looking at him like, do I know you from somewhere? And he's looking at her like he's been waiting for this moment every single day since they last spoke. It's awkward, it's messy, and it's absolutely the kind of situation where you just know things are about to get extremely complicated before they get anywhere close to resolved. Sometimes the heart remembers what the mind tries to bury, and sometimes the mind buries what the heart can't handle.
